In Out of the Abyss, you begin with nothing: stripped of resources, allies, and certainty. Survival and scarcity define the early campaign, as you navigate endless caverns, alien societies, and a world that does not want you to endure. Exploration is constant — not just of terrain, but of limits: how far you can push before breaking, and what you are willing to sacrifice to keep going.

As the campaign unfolds, the tone shifts. What begins as desperate survival grows into something larger and stranger. Cosmic forces stir. Reality frays. The horrors you once fled must eventually be confronted. Along the way, bonds form — often between characters who would never have chosen one another — and found family becomes not a comfort, but a necessity.

This campaign is actively brutal early, with meaningful psychological consequences and real danger for the careless. Later, it becomes heroic — not because the world grows kinder, but because you grow stronger.
